What is the final field decision?
Before cooking any orange mushroom, make the underside and base answer first. Cap color does not get a vote until the structural checks have passed.
Reject the find if the gills are thin blades, if several stems fuse from one woody base, or if the cut flesh stays orange through the stem. Those three facts point away from chanterelle and toward Jack O'Lantern.
